The word brocanteur is French for a person who deals in secondhand goods or a person who uses old items and turns them into new items. Hmmmm, sounds a bit like what I do. Or does it? I'm really not sure what you call the type of things that I buy and sell. Not really primitives but sometimes shabby chic..... oh well, whatever it's called it sure is great to have a small part of this growing sector.
It's been a few years now since I started doing this type of work (?) and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The hunt for the wonderful treasures is the most exciting part. I am sure that any of you who do the same thing can agree with me on that....the hunt, how wonderful.
There is definately alot of wonderful, creative people who are doing just what I do and find beauty in the oddest of objects. Keeping your focus can sometimes prove to be difficult, however, we forge ahead willingly to find the perfect "buy".
Today proved to be most fruitful in my search for items. Small silver trophies and brass trays are always a pleasure to find especially if they are unique. I have worked very hard to bring a uniqueness to my booth at Camas Antiques and various shows that I have done. Since moving to Vancouver from Seattle I made a promise to myself that I would be an individual and not run with the pack when it comes to doing business. So hopefully you will always be able to find great bargains, as well as, stylish items to give as gifts or simply to keep for yourself.
Until next time, HAPPY HUNTING.......
