Semi Precious Stone Earrings Added To The Mix

Not too very long ago, I actually made semi precious stone jewelry and did really well. All my designs were done in sterling silver or 14k gold filled. They sold fast and furious and somewhere along the way I stopped making the fancy stuff.

Well, I am going to bring it back. It is agreat way for me to keep my fingers nimble and I really do enjoy the tight wire wrapping that I is required to make some of the designs.

This particular pair are the palest blue Topaz stones actually they almost seem white. The stones are all faceted so the sparkle all over the place. Wrapped in 14k gold filled with french hooks, these are very pretty and will be for sale in my case at Camas Antiques.

This pair and several others will be on sale each pair handmade by me. Stop by and take a look.

Barn House 2012.....Umbrella Challenge

Last year my wonderful husband made me a show unit that had 3 "floating" umbrellas on top and it was wonderful.

So now that I have gotten the invite from the Barn House boys to do the 2012 show and that umbrellas are the requested form of decoration I went nuts with excitement. The challenge has been thrown out there that they would like everyone to come with umbrellas blazing and we don't need to use the customary white or beige. Whooppeeeeeee...............................

My hubby is already getting the new design ready and if any of you have any questions about how we constructed ours from last year, please feel free to contact us and we will be happen to let you know how we made ours.

It's gonna be the prettiest Barn House show ever.

The 2012 Show List-Revised

As I continue to perform a balancing act, of sorts, thru the many decisions I have to make concerning my 2012 plans for Brocanteur Vintage things have taken on a new perspective. First of all, as of March 1 my large booth at Camas will be gone. I will still be selling my scrabble tile pendants and the occasional French things, in the small wall space that I have by the register. But if you want my larger pieces you will have to go to Monticello for those.

This was a VERY difficult decision for me but one that I had to make due to only being able to do so many things at once. Something had to give and, unfortunately, Camas was it.

What seems to be screaming out to me is that I am going to do what feels right to me. Do the shows that will allow me to be myself and not try and compete (let's be honest) with everyone else around me. I want to feel free to be me.

So with that in mind, I have committed to the following shows for 2012:

Camas Vintage Faire   August 25
Vintage Gatherings   Sept. 14 and 15

Ok, times up. I've gotta stop messing around and commit to some shows for 2012.

At the beginning of this year I made a decision that I would not add any additional shows to my calendar but, as things changed I found that I had to make some changes here and there. This has opened up some extra time for me to fill by doing some extra shows.

So, herein is the problem.....I don't know which shows I show do. Do you guys have any suggestions? If you so, please email or Facebook me whatever you got so that I can begin the application processes. Any help from you would be greatly appreciated.

Ever since I moved into my booth in Monticello it has been such an exciting time. Bring something in, sell it, bring something else. Where else does merchandise move so fast and furious?! Well, today was no exception. Thursday night during dealers night I brought in a new Hoosier table and it sold today. Consequently, tomorrow morning I will take another fabulous piece in that I was lucky enough to pickup at the Junk Salvation Show in Hillsboro recently. It is a great cubby piece with lots of places to stash stuff. So don't miss it and be sure to look at all the other new things I recently I brought in. Fun, fun, fun........

Camas Redo...Come And See

My booth in Camas has once again been redone. Took some stuff out, put some new smalls in. What I did add were fruit crates to my wall so that there was a bit of a new backdrop to some of the new and unusual items I brought in. Lots of rosaries from France, bird cage, scrabble tiles and lots of other smalls. The fruit crates are available by order at $5 per piece. Just let them know how many you would like and I will bring them in for you. The crates are filled with little berry cartons made of thin wood. Very cute. So if you would like to purchase some, please let them know at Camas and I will get them to you as quick as I can. Don't miss out on some of the items that I have marked down, too. New Scrabble Tiles Have Arrived At Camas

New Batch of Scrabble Pendants at Camas Antiques

Most of you know that I make scrabble tile pendants, as well as, have a large booth selling shabby chic furnishings, etc. But what I don't think you know is that 4 times a year I do a boat load of these pendants all at once. 300-500 at a time is no easy feat but one that I have to do if I am to keep the selection fresh for my loyal customers. Well, this time is no exception. I have Easter themed tiles, moon themed, burlesque women themed and birds. Some are sprinkled with glitter and ready to be put on a chain. Most of these tiles will accommodate a 2.4mm ball chain, however, the smaller bails require a 1.5mm ball chain. I do sell some of those, as well. So, I will be taking this new batch out to Camas Antiques Thursday in time for First Friday. If you are there, please stop by and take a look. A side not, too.....I do special orders on these. So if there is a particular photo you want on a tile just let me know and I will be happy to make it up for you.

Glorious Windmill

Here is a photo of the windmill that I have for sale. It is 10.8 feet wide and weighs approx. 175 pounds, probably alittle more. This would be a great wall piece in a loft or huge home. I have it on Craigslist presently but will be in Monticello by the end of this week. Come see it.

Now granted, it's only the fan blade part without the stand but boy, is it magnificent.

I just acquired a HUGE windmill. The blades are in great shape and it is laid out in my field waiting for me to do something with it.
Do I sell it off piece by piece or do I keep it all together?

It is a 1940's windmill that was used as the source of getting water for a farm in Oregon. They dismantled it and thought that they would use it again later on but they did not. So now I own it.

How great is that.........................

Puppy Found A Home

Just wanted to quickly let everyone out there know that the pitbull puppy that so desperately needed a new home DID get one. A wonderful woman came and got him and introduced him to her other dogs and he was immediately welcomed.

Now, this is a woman with a bog heart and is very nonjudgmental about breeds.....for this I salute her. If only more people would open their minds instead of having a preconceived idea about a breed of dog then the world would be a better place.

It's all about how the dog is raised NOT the breed of dog that makes it dangerous. Even a poodle can bite, too.

A Most Colorful 2012

One thing that I have learned over the last year is not to be afraid of color. Not that I don't partake in the occasional blue or grey but I mean REAL color like yellow! Since the new year is here, and I, among others, have been reading all about the trends for 2012, it has given me an entirely different opinion as to just how much color should be used. Well, the trends show that color is going to be a real big deal this year.....who knew. Pink, grey even green can be used in your home with confidence and I don't just mean in accessories. These colors can be pieces of furniture and entire walls. So, keep using the white paint but don't forget that alittle, or alot, of color never hurt anyone.

Help Me Find This Puppy A Home...Please

All my friends in blogland, I need HELP.

This ever so cute, 9 week old, American Red Nose Bull Terrier puppy needs to be loved and cared for. His owner had to leave for an emergency and was unable to care for this cutie pie and now we're desperately trying to find him a new situation.

The cost of this puppy is $250 if you live in Portland because he can be delivered to you OR $200 if you live in Seattle.

Kindly ask all your friends and buddies if they would like to have a new best friend because he is the sweetest thing. My son has one and they are the most beautiful dogs. Great personalities and loyal to a fault. A family dog to be sure.

It's how you raise your pets that makes them the way they are NOT the breed itself. So please open your hearts and see if we can't all band together to find this cutie a new home. You can call my son Erik at 360 355-6022 if you can help.

Well, it's only a few more days until Santa comes to make his annual visit to everyone's house. Are you ready?

Our house will be busting with filled with family and friends and I am so overjoyed that all our drama this past weekend with the runaway dog, etc. ended well and they will all be joining us at our house for Christmas.

Erik, our eldest and Matt, our youngest will once again be here at our house for a holiday celebration. Over the years it has been very difficult gathering our kids to be in one place at the same time. The youngest used to work retail and the oldest is a chef. Those jobs require lots of time away from home during the holidays but we are luckier this year. Matt got out of retail and Erik has a restaurant consulting business now.

So, if you are lucky enough to have your family around you this Christmas, may it be a fun filled time with lots of laughs and good times. Even if you don't, may you all have a very Merry Christmas.

Special Home Decor Pieces

This lovely lady was yet another gift from my wonderful husband. I gotta tell you, he has a great eye for the chippy paint.

When we first saw this is a small island town, I was shocked by the price. By shocked I mean REALLY shocked. But, as luck might have it, the woman who was selling it off was ready to bargain. Needless to say, the price became one we could live with so it came home with us.

Funny thing was, we never even measured to see if it would fit in our jeep (the car at the time). What a sight, standing on the sidewalk, just the hubby, me and this beauty. Looking rather confused on how we would get this home. Luckily, a tourist came by, who noticed our perplexed looks, and offered a suggestion as to home it would, and did, fit in the jeep.

The rest is history, as they say, for today it sits in my dining area along with many other "gifts" from my hubby.

Bling, Bling....everywhere

Vintage bling is everywhere you look these days. I've got tons of it and still I continue to look for more.

There seems to be an attraction that I have to the clear stones versus the colored ones but no matter what color it is.....I love it all.

This particular photo is stuff that I recently acquired to use on my spoon pendants. Those of you who know my work know that I like to put a wee bit of sparkle on those otherwise plain spoons. So if you see some of this sparkle at Camas Antiques, where I sell my spoon pendants, don't be surprised. Christmas is just around the corner and gift lists are being made. Don't forget that I do take special orders for these pendants, too. So if you have a certain something put on one as a gift, let me know.

Great Big White Fabulousness

For those of you who have seen some of my larger pieces in the past, here is yet another one that is sure to please.

This baby has 28 drawers and a slanted work surface. Great for photographers or paper crafts....just about anything where working standing up is required. Open shelf unit on top.

Its origins are in the Eugene area where many of the University of Oregon spaces are being remodeled. This came from one of the working motorpools or something like that because it has gaskets outlined in some of the larger drawers. Each of the 18 small drawers are all divided into compartments that can be made larger or smaller. Great for someone's studio.

I will be taking this monster out to Monticello on Thursday during dealer night so if you are interested in taking a close look at it please stop by.

Christmas is coming to Monticello Antiques and I have been getting ready at a frenzy pace.

Monticello Antiques is one of the best places to go and be surrounded with inspiration. Lots of pretty sparkles and glitter everywhere you turn. Things you probably never thought of come to life with a quriky vintage twist to it. What could be better than that.

Industrial Piece.....Dentist Table

Hello all. This piece is one that I have owned for a few years. It is an old dentist cart that is metal with a drawer in the bottom. It is on wheels and is easily moved around. I purchased it from Gregg who use to own Gregg's in Portland in the Hawthorn district. It has been a super nice industrial cart and now I am going to put it up for sale in Monticello. I have not taken it out yet but wanted to give you a sneek peek at it.

Halloween Is Just Around The Corner

Hello everybody. It's a bit chilly outside today, don't you think? It feels great. I've got so many projects to try and get finished before it REALLY gets cold but I'm enjoying the weather so much I can't concentrate on any of them.

It never fails that when Halloween rolls around it gets sooo cold for the kids to go trick or treating. But they will all be dressed up in their Halloween finest, all warm (hopefully) and cozy going from door to door with their bags full of sweets. I love it.

Unfortunately, we don't get too many trick or treaters in our neighborhood and I can never figure out why. Houses line our street all decorated up for the night's adventure but we usually only get 1 or 2 kids. Seems kidda funny but I guess the times have changed so much that parents just don't take their kids out to neighborhoods as much as they use to. oh, well.

Gotta Find Me A Flea Market

It only became clear to me that the absolutely fantastic flea market is few and far between.

I had been on a trip South and found a most wonderful new piece, which I will be working on shortly, but I had to travel far to find this 1 piece. Why is this becoming the norm as opposed to the exception to the rule?! The treasure hunting is so much more intense these days that some of the fun is being overshadowed by the mere sense of dread that I will not find that 1 perfect treasure. I know I sound like a whiner but, my God, somethings got to give here......and soon.

If anyone is so bold as to share a destination or two with me I would be ever so grateful.

This evening I drove to Salem to my friend Sarah's Black Autumn Show. It was so cute and her attention to detail is so great that you will wish that you could stay and shop forever. It was so Halloween.......it was fabulous.

Learn To Cook At Home....Personal Chef Instruction

Hello everybody. This post is of a different nature. Some of you know that I love to cook and learn anything about food. Exotic or American favorites it all appeals to me.

Well, I know a great chef by the name of Erik Stafford and he will come into your home and teach you how to cook. You can hire him for private lessons, though he requires 2 people minimum, or you can have a culinary party at your home where he will teach you all to cook. Doesn't this sound fun ?

Prices vary depending on what you would like to learn and how many people but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. Erik is a trained chef from Western Culinary Institute/Le Cordon Bleu in Portland. He has cooked at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, El Gaucho's, Maggianno's Italian Restaurant, as well as many other smaller places, too.

New Booth Setup and Ready To Sell

As requested, I have posted here a few photos of my new little booth in Monticello Antiques Marketplace. I tried really hard to fit everything into this space and think I did a pretty good job, under the circumstances.

The Fall show ended yesterday and we torn down our structure in the salvage garden of the store and brought whatever we could to the new booth space. We had so much other stuff, as well, to add that it filled it up rather nicely.

So, don't forget to look me up whenever you are in Monticello, as well as, Camas Antiques.

Moving In Day At Monticello Antique Marketplace

Hello to you all and happy Friday! Well, today marks the beginning of my new Monticello adventure. I move into my permanent space this afternoon and I counldn't be happier. Lots of stuff will eventually find its way into the space on Monday, too but today is just a smattering.

We will hang the sign and move a few crucial pieces in. What is not to be missed are these 4 industrial chairs. They actually have University of Oregon/Oregon University stickers on the bottomside of the seats. They are actually drafting chairs but you can make them low, as well as, high. Very cool with the wood seats and metal backs on them. I will post a photo later on today so that those of you who are not local can take a look at them, too. They are selling for $125.00 each.

The other main piece is a multi drawer unit that is dark wood and really beautiful. Many, many uses for this in a studio or home office. Also, I will post a photo later.

So, as much as I would love to stay and chat abit, I must continue to load my truck for the trek out to Monticello. Do drop by this weekend and see the last couple days of the Fall Premier Show that is going on right now. Lots of great stuff can still be had.

New Real Estate At Camas Antiques

The chill is in the air and Fall is sneaking up on us quicker that we would propably like. With change in the seasons there is also alittle change of real estate for me at Camas Antiques.

I have made the decision to move into a 10 x 10 booth instead of remaining in the large space I had occupied in the back of the first floor. Brocanteur Vintage is now located on the other side of the wall by the checkout counter, second booth in.

This space is light and bright.Having walls makes it is ever so nice to hang things from. Something I had very little of in the back. I have put up my large window sign so that you cannot miss me in the new space. Hopefully, you will all come and see my new digs and checkout some of the fun items I have added since moving over.

Monticello Fall Garden Show Going Strong

Well, here we ate in full swing of the Monticello Fall Garden show and there are still lots and lots of very cool items being brought in everyday.

My husband had to fluff my space yesterday because I am out of town at the moment. Do go by my booth and take a peek at the great jar rack that was taken in yesterday. Row after row of hanging jars built onto a heavy duty metal bar system. It truly is a masterpiece. The price is $300 and worth every dollar. It could be used for so many cool things. It actually reminds me of something you might find at Anthropology. Nevertheless, you should go over and take a look at this and also a set of bergere chairs that are ever so cute. I wish I had photos but, alas, I do not.

I am writing this via my phone and am not really very good at it nor fast but I wanted to be sure that you do not miss this opportunity to pickup some great pieces during the show. As with all things vintage, once they're gone, they're gone.

Finally Its Happened To Me

Just like the disco song says, "Finally its happened to me...blah, blah, blah." I have been given a permanent spot at Monticello Antiques. This makes me extremely happy, nervous, excited (and the list goes on).

This has always been a goal of mine to be in Monticello along with all those other very talented vendors .
I, myself, am not NEARLY as talented as they are but I will be giving it the old college try. The move in date is October 1 or thereabouts, as I am participating in the Monticello Fall Premier Show that starts tomorrow.

That being said, please make sure that you get to Monticello tomorrow and join in the fun and excitement that is the Fall Premier Show. Lots of great merchandise, displays and inspiration will surround you once you have entered the magical garden area.

Monticello Fall Premier Show 2011

Next up, Monticello Fall Premier Show. Cannot wait to setup and share the items that I have been hoarding especially for this show.

These photos are a small piece of what I have available. Some of you wanted me to post pictures in case there was some item or two that you wanted snag. Just know that there are lots more items that I will be adding weekly for the duration of this month-long show. So plan several trips.

Joyce of Monticello put out the guest list and it looks like this is going to be one heck of a great show. New guests and old guest alike will be sharing lots and lots of treasures to tempt you.

Even yesterday, as I searched thru the Oregon City Antiques Fair, I was picking up odds and ends to bring to this show. Then later in the day, we traveled further into Oregon and ran across some really funky pieces that I will share, too.

My advise to you all is to shop and shop often during this event. It will not disappoint you. Bring your mates, girlfriends and fellow junque collectors for this Fall event.

Camas Vintage Faire......Bigger and Better

Well, tomorrow is the annual Camas Vintage Faire....3rd year running. In the previous two years I was always able to make do with an ordinary 10 x 10 canopy. Not anymore. You see, when I originally signed up for the show I said I wanted a 10 x 10, like always, but then as I was looking at all the great stuff I have to brings the panic hit me as I realized that I really need a 10 x 20.

So I quickly emailed Laurie (Worthy Goods) and explained my panic and she quickly responded by saying that I, indeed, could double my space if I wanted to. Of course, I said. How great of you to accommodate my last minute request.

Therefore, I will be in a large space, 10 x 20, full of goodies for your shopping pleasure. Make sure that you drop by and see us because we will have deals, as well as, the customary Brocanteur Vintage unusual pieces on hand. And please note that I will be taking ALL major credit cards, if that's your pleasure.

I am very excited to be a part of the Monticello Fall Premier Show. This is my first time being in a Monticello show and I couldn't be happier.

Camas Vintage Street Faire 2011

That's the date of the Camas Vintage Street Faire. Held in beautiful downtown Camas, this is one of the best shows to attend because the setting is so great. If you have not ever been to Camas, then this is the perfect reason to come and see us. Take in the street fair and enjoy some great food and music, too.

I am far too happy and very pleased to say that Barn House Vintage Marketplace was a HUGE success for me. It was a pleasure being part of such a wonderful show in an even more wonderful venue.

A BIG shout out to Joe and Jermonne for including Brocanteur Vintage in this year's line up of vendors.

It was alot of fun and the weather was perfect.

After I settle down for all the excitement of the build up to the show and now its completion, I will post photos of our booth for you all to see. Unfortunately, we were so busy that I have no photos of the actual customers in our booth. But I do have a photo of the VERY long line of people waiting to get in.

Some of you might remember the last window that I did at Camas Antiques. It was all industrial fixtures, racks, galvanized pans and burlap bags.

Well, I had a rack just like this one in the window and it sold on the very first day it appeared in the window. At that time, I was under the impression from the guy I got it from, that it was his last one. Low and behold, here is another one just like it and it's all mine.

I know that Marcie from 4th and Birch wanted one REALLY badly and she was very disappointed when I told her there were no more left. Maybe she'll see this posting before anyone else does and get luckier this time around.

At any rate, I do have one now and it will be available to anyone who is interested. Jet me an email if you want further info on this rack. By the way, it does have racks for each of the shelves.

Cubbies, cubbies and more cubbies

This wonderful cubby wall unit came right out of academia, University of Oregon, that is. They were doing a bit a remodelling up in Eugene and this fabulous piece just screamed, "Take me home"! So not wanted to disappoint, myself or others, it came right along with me and now is awaiting a good cleaning up before it makes its appearance at the Barn House July 30 event.

All the cubbies have the original name plackets still intact, allbeit they are empty, someone will be able

to put new tags in them and make it their own. How fun for use in a studio or work area. Lots of storage and ready to for a coat of paint.....or not.

Picked up my first of many pieces that I will be selling at the 2011 Barn House Vintage Country Marketplace on July 30.

This little lovely is 20 (one is false) drawers of pure greatness. This darker color is a departure for me as I am used to having white or light colored furnishings for sale in my booth at Camas Antiques.
The bottom middle, last row drawer is a false front. Don't know why but it is.

Any artist would be happy to have this much storage space in a studio for supplies and paper, etc. Don't you agree? I can't wait for someone to fall in love with it as quickly as I did. Actually, I am alittle surprised at myself that I am parting with it at all. Oh well, this is someones chance to take it home.

No More Slacking Off

Ok, Ok...I know I have been a non-blogger for 1 entire week but it's because I get so caught up in the Tour de France that I just can't seem to do much in the way of junking or otherwise. But it is time to get to work.

Currently I am working on some special order scrabble tiles and gathering more and more spoons in order to keep pace with the sales of my spoon pendant necklaces. Those little darlings sell so darn well that there are times when I can't keep up with the demand. It really is fun to make them, though. Even if spoons are hard to find at times I will continue to produce them.

Another one of my necklace items are the embellished keys. These are really hot right now and I am making them as fast as I can. There's only so much I can do with a key since I only use vintage jewelry pieces for the added "bling". It seems to make the keys just that much more special. Don't you think?

Enough blogging...time to get to work. Like I said, NO MORE SLACKING OFF.

Lazy Sunday

It's warm, sunny and making me feel a bit lazy. That's kinda how it is here at the old homestead today.

The hubby left town this morning and that leaves me all by my lonesome to finish a lot of projects that I currently have around the house.

Maybe I'll bake.....no, too hot. Maybe I'll paint....no, to messy. Maybe, just maybe, I'll clean my much neglected house. Yea, that's the ticket.

Who am I kidding. I've got so much merchandise piled high in my garage that if I don't organize it REAL soon then I am sure to become a hoarder.

Well, I better decide on something soon as the day is wasting away and I still have yet to move my butt from behind this laptop.

Warm Weather Means No Excuses Not To Paint

No matter what, it takes really warm weather in order for paint to dry nicely. Therefore, I have absolutely no excuses not to be outside painting away at a few tid bits that I will be taking to my next sale. But if the truth be known, I really don't want to spend my time painting, not with all this great weather. What's a girl to do?

Maybe I'll just find me a lounge chair somewhere and lay out in the sun and dream about all the things that I HAVE to do as opposed to the things I WANT to do.........

Do any of you have the same problem? I already know what my day will be; I'll spend so much time thinking about what I should do that I won't get anything done at all!!!!!!!!

Oh well, I guess a few days like this aren't soooo bad after all.

Quaint and Cozy

I've been looking at lots of photos lately of great farm house interiors since I found a blog called 187 Farmhouse. It has some really great stuff on farmhouses everywhere.

This kitchen is sooooo very cute and functional plus it is ever so French. It reminds me of my kitchen in Nyons in my apartment that I stayed in while traveling France to visit various cooking schools. It was organized alot like this one pictured here. Everything you need without all the frills, etc. that we have in the USA. Quaint and cozy. Just right.

I wish I was in France right now...........Don't you?

The Weather's Great But We Must Get Ready

Do you believe the weather we had this weekend ?! It doesn't get much better than that. I spent both days at the Vancouver Recycled Arts Festival. This is my third year as a vendor and it only gets better and better. So much talent and creativity.

But anyway, it's now time to prepare for the Barnhouse Vintage Marketplace in July. I've got some very special pieces that I will be offering up for sale during this show. I hope everyone gets out and comes to it because it is going to be great.

JoAnn Taylor (Camas Antiques) and I will be doing our booths side by side so it will be extra special and fun. We both plan to make it a show to remember. Please drop by and see our treasures. You will not want to miss them.

Sofa Update

Well, at this point the sofa "redo" is now "redone". Here it is with its new coverings on and the tube trim waiting patiently to be attached all over the front, back and sides.

My Camas Antiques Booth(s)

Well, as I promised, here is the redo of my Camas space. Lots and lots of new things to pick from. Blue Ball jars galore, pillows and lots and lots of galvanized everything. The green/blue cabinet in the back is just the right style for someone with a like for color and unique style. The gustavian grey buffet in the foreground is a wonderful piece as an addition to a dining room. Also don't forget the funky bread rack......just perfect.

New Merchandise Coming On Monday To Camas

O.k......now we all know how I just LOVE to mix it up all the time and Monday will be no different.

I have some new merchandise that I will be taking over to my booth at Camas Antiques and I gotta tell you, I think they are super. Not only are some of the pieces different in color but they are fun any very usable, too.

Here is an example of a blue/green distressed piece that has little sections in some of the drawers and a cabinet, too.

This next white piece is a shelf unit with a glass top panel and a solid wood one on the bottom half. Both halves have shelves. This is a very usable piece in a studio or a kitchen area as well.

Here are some more big plastic letters. There is a green "C", a white "C", a yellow "S" and a yellow "E". All are clean and ready to hang on your wall somewhere.

So don't miss these and some other great pieces that I am taking out on Monday, tomorrow, to Camas Antiques. These pieces will be accompanied by a white washed dough table, a gustavian grey buffet and a super cool metal bread rack.

Couch Update.......................

Well, well....here is the update on the couch that I am currently doing over. It is taking on a whole new look, don't you think ?

Coffee sacks on the back, sides and bottom (under cushions). The back and seat cushions are going to be a different fabric so that it will be comfortable to sit on.

My intent is to have this completed by the Barn House sale in July where I hope to have it up for sale.

Yesterday was my birthday. I won't tell you how old I am but I can tell you that it was a great day.
I had my family with me and we all went to dinner. Now I know that it seems like a small thing to have dinner but you have to realize that everyone was together at the same time, at the same table. This is a RARE treat for us since everyone lives here and there with odd schedules, etc. So, this was a super treat for me.

Then after dinner we went and got one of my birthday gifts....a new cellphone. Not just any cellphone but an htc EVO 4G cellphone! It's a wonderful thing. Like having a small computer in your hand.

My family is good to their old mom.............don't you think?

Worthy Goods Presents The Camas 2011 Vintage Street Faire August 27

In August there is a great vintage faire coming up in Camas. This show is the Camas Vintage Street Faire and it is a blast. The main street in Camas becomes a vintage heaven. Lots of talented vendors selling their wares with great displays and an atmosphere that is second to none.

BIG Project Underway

Alrighty, it really is pretty ugly in this particular color. Kind of a mauve/lavender kinda mix. YUK!

The bones on this baby are great and it is actually 7 feet 2 inches long. I purchased it a few days ago and have decided that I will redo the covering. Maybe a burlap or linen, not quite sure yet. I've been painted and ripped upholstery all day out in the glorious sun and it's coming along already.

It really is amazing at what white paint can do for a piece of furniture. Stay tuned for updated pictures of my progress.

Another Great Junk Salvation Show Behind Us

Well, another Junk Salvation Show has come and gone.....yes, it was a BIG success ! I want to thank the Funky Junk Sisters for all there hard work in putting this show together and letting me be a vendor at their show. The business was brisk and the people were friendly. That makes ALL the difference in the world. Dixie and Linda, the Funky Junk Sisters, always know how to throw an event and this was no exception. It was a blast.

The pictures above are from my booth which was right in front of the entry door. I couldn't have asked for better positioning. The 3 hour Breast Cancer Benefit on Friday night nearly wiped me out of merchandise and I had to totally remerchandise my booth in time for Saturday's customers. I know now that next show I will definitely have to bring more "smalls".

There was live music at this show and she sounded exactly like Sarah McLaughlin....very good voice. It was a pleasure to have her singing. I didn't get her name but I am sure if you were interested the Funky Junk Sisters could give you more info.

Anyway, it was great to be there and I saw soooo many friends that stopped by to say "hello" and that made it really enjoyable. I will be posting pictures from some of the other vendors spaces. There merchandise was great in every one's booths and I am sorry I can't post all the photos I took but I think you will enjoy these. Stay tuned for the next posting of pictures..................

Fabulous, fabulous fleurs.....what could be more beautiful to look at? This was taken at a market in Provence, France.

I'm sure you have all spoken to someone who has visited the various markets around France. Everyone seems to remember the one thing that draws them into the experience. For me it was the flowers and, of course, the food. Primarily because I was there taking cooking classes and each day we would get our vegetables, etc. from the market.

The spices, the vegetables, herbs and poultry were absolutely the best I have ever had. But then again how could anything taste bad while you are visited France. The colors, the smells and the sounds of all the people enjoying the daily task of shopping for their evening meal. The only word that comes to mind is "enchanting".

I hope you all get to experience an outdoor market in France someday. It's well worth the trip.

Mother's Day Surprise Alittle Early

Now I have to tell you, I've been married for 20 years and my husband is one who cannot EVER keep a secret.

That being said, I woke up this morning to find that I have been given a Sansumg Notebook for Mother's Day. YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I sooo needed a new computer but who would have thought that my two sons and my husband would be so thoughtful as to give me one as a gift.

They are all so great and I love them all so very much for being the men that they are.

I am proud.

White Wicker Rocker

With the Junk Salvation Show coming up on May 13 and 14, I have had to be very selective on my choices of things to bring to sell at this show. Mainly due to the caliber of customer that attends this spectacular show but also because I want only the best that I have to offer.

This rocker has been with me for over a year in my studio. It has never been something that I have wanted to part with. It is well-made and ever so cute. White.....as it should be and a very cute orange patterned fabric covers the back and seat. It's perfect for the ladies of the area with their big porches and patios Hopefully someone with spy this lovely and take it home along with so many other wonderful things that I and many other vendors at the show will have.

Can't Say Enough About Kate Hill

On my last trip to France, I had the pleasure of visiting a friend of mine in Gascony, Kate Hill. She's an American living out her life in France and loving every minute of it. I envy her.

Kate is a cookbook author and canal barge cooking instructor. She takes people out on her barge, the Julia Hoyt, and teaches them how to cook. Her home is a fantasy place that you just want to never leave.

Since this area is known for their duck, I had the pleasure of being at her home on the couple of days that the BBC was filming her for a television show. It was magical.

We have some of the best duck I have ever had and you just can't beat the atmosphere for having a truly authentic French experience.

If you are interested in this experience for yourself, please read her book, A Culinary Journey in Gascony by Kate Hill, It is an enjoyable read and is filled with bits of information, as well as, recipes from the region.

New Pieces For Upcoming Shows

Remember this piece? It use to be green....a nice green, really, but it never seemed to catch anyone's eye.

Now it is grey. A light grey, a true grey. Something everyone should want in their home. Don't you agree?

Next, a round dining table. Nice but not entirely the look I was going for. In its previous life, it had a sage green (that color again) top and this barn red base. It looked a little too, too cottage-ish for me and since that isn't the look that I try for I decided to paint the base Gustavian grey, too. No pictures but I can assure you that it looks marvelous. Put these two pieces together in a dining room with some groovy chairs and you've got a terrific look.

These two pieces with be at the Junk Salvation Show on May 13/14 in Puyallup along with some demi-lune tables and industrial bits, as well.

All good things come to an end and this goes for my front window at Camas Antiques, too.

On May 1, I will be moving out of the window and the egg-stravaganza will be over. So, if there is anything that you have been coveting and would like to take your chances at at pulling a BIG discount egg, now is the time. You have a week and a couple days to enjoy some extra savings on some one-of-a-kind industrial pieces that I have in the window.

Don't fret too much though. I will be moving the leftover window pieces into my booth on Sunday, May 1 so you can still purchase them.

Want To See My Rack?

Yes, yes, I know. Bad title but did it get your attention?! Maybe not, but this gem of a rack sure got mine at a recent estate sale I went to.

Isn't it just the neatest thing you've seen in a long while ? This is an industrial rack with wooden drawers that are very old and came out of the old Portland Surveyors Office. There are two drawers missing but that's alright. It is authentic to itself and I hope that I can part with it and put it up for sale in my booth at Camas or possibly one of the shows I am doing over the next 6 months.

It really is an artist's dream to have all of your bits and pieces available at your fingertips in these drawers. I keep picturing it in my studio and all the uses I would have for it.

We'll see if it gets the better of me or not...........

Unexpected Happenings At The Beach

Isn't it funny that when you least expect something to go wrong it inevitably does.

Take yesterday for example. My husband and I decided to take a weekend trip to the coast for some much needed rest and relaxation. The weather was great, the hotel was nice, I found some lovely little things to bring home plus we tried a new restaurant and it was wonderful, too. Everything was going smoothly.

Wake up this morning and get into the car to go to breakfast.....no go ! The car was dead. Absolutely no sign of life in the engine. Now, of course, it is Sunday and we're two hours away from home.....great ! Now what?!

So we proceed to get a local car repair guy out to the hotel parking lot to look at the car and see if he could fix it. NO. So now we're calling our youngest son to leave his job and come and get us. Now, remember, we're two hours away. He finally gets to us and we start to drive back and about 1/2 hour into the return trip my husband discovers he has left his cellphone in the other car. CRAP! Now, we have to add another hour (going both ways) to an already long enough return trip. Not to mention make plans to return Monday to take the car to a local repair shop to see if they fix it. So back we will go to the beach one more time.

So much for that much needed rest and relaxation.

Only At Night

It seems that the only fairly good picture I could get of the entire window was taken at 10 PM last night. I know it isn't showing detail, etc. but it was the best I could do. For those of you who are wondering about the bunny mannequin, she's there to be sure everyone is aware of the discount eggs that you get to draw when you purchase anything from "CHIX", me, all month long.

Window Is Finished

Well, it's finally finished. Unfortunately, I could not get a full on photograph of the finished window during daylight hours because of glare but here are a few tidbits of it. I think you get the full idea of what I was going for.

It really makes a statement as far as metals go. Like I said before, if it's something galvanized or otherwise you have been looking for, here is the place to get all the metal and rust you can handle.

Burlap bags, shopping cart, laundry cart, postal cart, wash basin, planters, feeders, books, baskets, buckets, too much else to mention.

Come on out to Camas and look for yourself. Who knows, there may be something that is calling your name.

99% Finished

No photos......yet! 99% finished on the April window that I am doing at Camas Antiques this month. I got home around 8:00 PM this evening from a full day of trips back and forth to change trailers, etc. in order to get it all there in one piece.

The other piece that was moved in today is a wonderful display cabinet from a shop in New England. It is wood and glass and just perfect for a shop (hummm?) someday. Well, it got to my space just fine but now I have to fill it with goodies. It looks a bit lame right now but I will dress it up in the next day or so.

Anyway, the window, like I said is 99% done. Just have to spend Thursday putting all the small details in place for 1st Friday festivities. It should be a fun Friday for all.

Big News Coming Soon

Well, well have I had a week so far. April is shaping up to be quite the exciting time for me. Many new things are coming down the pike beginning in May and I will be sharing all the news with you shortly (don't want to jinz it, you know). I've even have to drop out a show or two to be able to do everything that's coming my way.

Anyway, I have been changing things up at my space in Camas during the last few days in preparation for the April window that I am doing. There will be lots and lots of really neat things that are a deviation from my "normal" stuff but, nevertheless, I think it will be fun.

The large empty "hole" in my Camas space will, hopefully, be filled with a display piece that came from New England. Very nice and, oh so, happy to have it. I need to do some adjusting on it first then we'll bring it out.

But I am very excited at how 2011 is shaping up for me and I hope you will be, too.

My Son Turned 32........YIKES

Yesterday my son turned 32 years old. I can't even wrap my head around that. Many of you out there have children and as they get older you just can't help but feel that much older, too.

Ironically my eldest sister has her birthday on the same day as my son. That was a coincidence but it also is a double whammy as a reminder of her getting older, as well as, my son.

Nevertheless, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIK.

Optical Lenses

For a really long time I have been hoarding these optical lenses. It has come time to sell them. There are 15 in all in various sizes and all of them are in perfecr condition. Use them for necklaces or in some altered art of some kind, they work really well for that stuff.

If you have ever shopped my booth then you know that I am always on the lookout for anything and everything French. As difficult as it sometimes is, I can always find a piece of vintage artwork online to use as an iron on transfer.

This one is so darn cute. Small little flowers and "Paris" written on it. Wouldn't this look great on a sachet bag ? I think so.

As a matter of fact, I think I'll make some up today.

Salt and Pepper Shaker Chandelier

Alot of people have been asking me about this salt and pepper shaker chandelier that I had in my booth at Camas last year so I thought I would give you the info.

Even thought I have sold this one and others like it thru special orders, I will continue to take any special requests for one.

The cost is $225 and it takes about two to three weeks for me to complete one. Shipping is available but it will be according to destination so I cannot quote a price here. Local delivery or pickup is a great option.

FARM CHICKS SHOW JUNE 2011

Well, the week is moving along very quickly and my schedule has just gotten 1 show fuller.

I am doing the Farm Chicks show in June and I couldn't be happier. This is the first really far away show I have done and, as much as it will be a challenge, I am sure it will be the greatest thing ever. Lots of stuff to buy and things to do but what a blast it will be.

There will be promotional information available in my booth at Camas Antiques very shortly. So be sure to mark June 4 and 5 on your calendar to be in Spokane for this fabulous show.

Well, it's Monday again. Time to get out the to-do list and get going.

My normal Monday begins with picking up alittle around the house and I had almost forgotten about this lovely roses that my husband gave me almost 3 weeks ago. The y are a very pale, pale ivory and since they have been aging they have taken on this wonderful brown on the edges.

So, of course, I took out the trusty camera and shot this picture. Kinda nice and soft...don't you think? I like it and so did he. I can't wait to see what color roses he brings me next. Maybe if I promise to photograph them every time I get flowers, I might get them alot. Oh, well it's worth a try.

Quiet Week Full Of New Acquisitions

We went to a fabulous auction last week out of town and found the greatest stuff. Lots of perfect little items that will sell extremely well for me at Camas Antiques. Like this ballet dress.

I have spent the good part of this week ticketing and packaging these things so that I can get them out. Also, it seems that there has been an uptick in special orders for me of late. These are little surprises to me when I get a telephone call from someone I do not know who wants a bunch of stuff from me to sell in their own shop. It makes me think that all my hard work isn't in vain.

But the biggest surprise was when I was asked if I would consider being someones partner in their established business in Portland. A great big shop full of items that I love. Don't think I am not tempted, however, my plans do not include being in partnership with anyone. When I open my own shop, I want to be my own boss, just me.....is that selfish !? Nevertheless, I was very flattered.

Maybe the time and effort that goes into this type of work is worth it. All I know is that I have met some really great people (and some not so great) and that's what is important. The people make this a fun and exciting way to spend my days.

French Silk Apron

If you have ever shopped mu space at Camas Antiques you know that I am always on the lookout for items made in France. Well, this little (and I do mean little) apron is from France. It is made of a very delicate silk with lace everywhere. But the most wonderful embroidered flowers are also present on this garment and I have never seen such beautiful workmanship.

Take a close look at these photos and I think you will certainly agree that whoever made this apron took lots of car, as well as, time in doing so. Not only is it the smallest apron, width wise, that I've seen but it has a darling little sailor-type collar on it. That, too, is embroidered.

This thing is so darn cute I can't stand it. Plus I have another one that has small rosettes on the front and lace, etc. Just as cute but in a different way.

Both of these items will be available for sale in Camas very shortly. Be sure to stop by and give them a look.

Remember Her ?

This is my little winged angel dress form that has so lovingly been a part of my booth and shows over the last couple of years. She graced the Camas Open House Tour during 2010. All dressed up in her curly music paper skirt, she was quite the hit.

Well, she has been stripped of her frock and is patiently waiting for me to adorn her in another ensemble. The problem is, is that when I undressed her, so to speak, I kinda liked the raw look of the ripped paper. Being that this form is from Hungary, and oh so very old, the cardboard underneath the bunting and fabric is nicely patinaed.

For now I think I will leave her as she is, sitting in a corner of my formal dining room. Maybe if something REALLY great comes to mind I'll give her a fresh new look. But for now, I think she's great just the way she is.

Vintage Suitcases By The Dozen

I have been working on my collection of vintage suitcases for a "little" stack for my home. As you can see, I have completed the collection and now the proud owner of a stack of suitcases that go all the way to my ceiling.

This collection is comprised of old leather cases with labels still on the sides, stripped cases and even a yellow leather case with red corner guards. But the creme de la creme is the beautiful old leather hat box that my husband found for me that crowns the top. It is exquisite.

Now I can mark yet another project of the old "to do" list.

Vintage Poker Chips.....Hard To Find

There are lots of things that I dabble in, as some of you know. The most frustating thing that I come up against is finding just the "right" product to work with but then not being able to replenish my collection of parts in a timely manner.

Take these poker chip pendants. Great to look at and the feel of these chips is very tactile. The problem is that the chips are composition type that were used 40 to 50 years ago. You know, the kind that break when you drop them !? Oh, I didn't tell you that. VERY BREAKABLE. Anyway, I cannot seem to find enough of these bad boys around these days.

If anyone can help me out.......don't be shy. I would appreciate the help in finding some more of these composition poker chips.

Well, I was off on the hunt yesterday and found wonderful new items that will coming to Camas very shortly. I cannot tell you much more other than to say that I need to rent a flatbed trailer this morning to pickup all my goodies. Lots of them were just too big to put in the jeep.

The Funky Junk Sisters

The Funky Junk Sisters, Dixie and Linda, were donning the Valentine red roses being given out by my husband and son during the Junk Salvation Show this past Saturday.

For those of you who have not attended before, my booth always gives out roses to my customers when they shop with me. At the Breast Cancer Awareness benefit at the last Junk Salvation Show, we were giving out pink roses (and my hubby wore a pink sweater). So we thought it only appropriate to hand out red roses in honor of Valentine's Day.

But these two gals are deserving of these roses anytime. They work hard and put on a great show. Thanks again Dixie and Linda.

Brocanteur Vintage (me) wants to thank Linda and Dixie for putting on a great Junk Salvation Show in Hillsboro yesterday. The Funky Junk Sisters sure know how to put on a show, that's for sure ! Since this was their inaugural show in the Portland area, I think it is safe to say that it was a roaring success by the looks of the crowd.

I can only speak for myself but I had a wonderful show once again. There were lots of people who stopped by to say HI and I also met loads of others who have become fast friends.

For all the hard work, Linda and Dixie, please accept a great big hug for your efforts. I, for one, appreciate all you do to help everyone have a successful show.

New Products Everywhere

The new year has proven to be quite challenging for me. I have sooo many new items to prepare and make and I am also updating all my shops that I have merchandise on out there in .com land.

Last year I was excited to have sold several items in France and I would really like to keep that going so I have been on the computer all day trying to put up new photos and listings of merchandise. This takes an awful lot of energy and time. Not to mention that I feel kinda sick at the moment and don't know how much longer I can keep this up today (at least).

So, anyway, please be sure and check out the changes I made out at Camas Antiques yesterday. I think the additional pieces make for a better shopping experience in my booth. Lots to pick from and much, much more to come shortly.

Wishful thinking

Do you ever have those days when you wish you had more time ? Time to complete projects, time to spend with family, time for a little break in the weather.

These days I seem to be in that mode of thinking. It doesn't matter how much I think I can achieve and when, it's the "how" to get it done when it keeps raining and working outside is just out of the question. I guess I have to be ingenious and figure out a way to fit it all in before the Junk Salvation Show.

My usual attack is to do a full dry run on my 10 x 10 space prior to the actual show. I don't think I am going to be that lucky this time. Oh well, I am leaving town to go treasure hunting so at least I can get my mind off of the small details for a short while anyway.

But, boy, if wishes could come true...................................................................

Making Changes Big and Small

Change is good....or so they tell me. That's why 2011 will be full of large and small change ups in both my personal and professional life.

I will strive to do some really deep soul searching and focusing on some of the items that I neglected in 2010. No, I am not making early resolutions. I'm just making a public statement out loud so that I will have to do what I said I would do. Makes sense to me...............

New Mannequin Outfit

For those of you who have seen my mannequins at either a show or in my booth at Camas Antiques then you will be familiar with my little Hungarian lovely. The last time see was "out and about" she had a music sheet curled skirt and a coffee filter bustier. Her final appearance in that outfit was for the Camas Home Tour.

Well, here she is in her new ensemble. Puffy and ruffled dress highlighted with seashells. Looks like a big owl really but it is ever so cute. The bottom of the dress is detailed with very small shells spread out amongst the pleats. The wings add a real etheral feel to the overall look. She will be in my booth in Camas at the start of the new year. Look for it there.

Those of you who have shopped with me know that I like to have unusual yet great (and affordable) things. Well, soon enough I will be changing over the entire booth and I think you'll find it fun and different. Stay tuned.
